Screen Play: May’s Must-See Movies

Our 11 favorite films this month

The East

Ever heard of freegans? Anticonsumers who hop trains, sleep in tents, and dumpster dive for dinner (a.k.a. the inspiration for this film). Writer/director Zal Batmanglij and co-writer/actress/gal pal Brit Marling lived off the grid for a summer and turned their experience into an indie espionage thriller about an anarchist group giving big drug companies a taste of their own medicine.
It’s like: Sound of My Voice meets Edge of Darkness.
Take: Your moral compass.
Premieres: May 31
