We began making ourselves at home at beachy boutique Cabana in May 2006. (Our embroidered tunic collection is a little out of control.) But for the last five months, we’ve spent more of our paycheck down the street at owner Merry Vose’s latest fashion fixture, Canary.

With racks of goods from designers such as Peter Pilotto and Preen, the shop is the more polished younger sister to the cool and casual Cabana.

Like Cabana, Canary has a brightly colored front entrance (in a brave yellow, naturally) and a lack of signage. Inside, find plenty of European labels alongside Stateside favorites such as Sea New York, Veronica Beard, and Crippen — but just twenty or so designers at a time.

It’s hard to pick favorites, but we begged Vose to give us five hot items for spring. Here’s her list:

1. Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection Thorin bib necklace, $2,300.

2. Marissa Webb high-waist Josephine skirt, $498.

3. Roksanda Ilincic Apsley skirt, $1,180.

4. Each x Other color-block leather shorts, $675.

5. Marissa Webb Daphnie color-block lace-up heel, $498.

Yes, these prices are way steep. But fashion inspiration — and the iced tea — is free.
