The Weekend Guide

wink & nod!

A nod is as good as a wink.

DRINK
Wink & Nod Opens
What:
South End goes speakeasy. The former Noche space transforms into a richly textured lair with veteran mixologists slinging reimagined Prohibition elixirs like the Halle (Scapa scotch, lime juice, sweet and dry vermouth, Caribbean syrup) and the Demi (amontillado sherry, Cocchi Americano, lemon juice).
Why: Food gets equal love as Whisk pop-up maestros Philip Kruta and Jeremy Kean dish out small plates like smoked quail yakitori, scallop crudo with foie gras, and made-to-order Twinkies.
When: Daily, 5 p.m.-2 a.m.
Where: 3 Appleton St. (617-482-0117).

PLAY
Blazing Paddles Opens
What:
Find your ping-pong mojo — Susan Sarandon would approve — at a subterranean lair with twelve reservation-only tables, plus burgers, pizzas, and cocktails such as the Pong Collins (Hendrick’s gin, simple syrup, lemon bitters, lemonade, and soda water).
Why: Losers can take out their anger in the batting cages.
When: Mon.-Wed. & Sun., 11 a.m.-1 a.m.; Thurs.-Sat., 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
Where: 82 Lansdowne St., inside Game On, Fenway (617-351-7001).

EAT
Pastoral Opens
What:
The latest Neapolitan kid on the block aims for a devoted fandom with wood-fired pies topped with chef Todd Winer’s house-made cheeses, duck sausage, and clams.
Why: The industrial-chic farmhouse vibe and European wine list mean you can have your date night and eat pizza, too.
When: Opens Fri. Daily, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. & 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Update: Pastoral has delayed its opening.
Where: 345 Congress St., Fort Point (617-345-0005).

Legal Crossing Opens
What:
The latest Legal iteration caters to seafood junkies with baked, grilled, and fried oysters; butter poached lobster; and white clam pizzetta, with adult profiteroles for dessert.
Why: Crab cakes and lobster rolls for the late-night crowd.
When: Daily, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
Where: 558 Washington St., Downtown Crossing (617-692-8888).

LEARN
Boston Design Week

What: Get to know the city’s creatives with ten days of furniture open houses, interior design panel discussions, historical film screenings, and jeweler meet-and-greets.
Why: Room 68 introduces new local designers and previews its pending Provincetown store.
When: Thru Mar. 30.
Where: Various locations. Complete list of events at bostondesignweek.com.

MUNCH
Stacked Donuts Pop-Up
What:
Top Chef-er and No. 9 Park sous chef Stephanie Cmar continues her citywide cruller crusade with two varietals guaranteed to sell out quickly — maple crumple and salted chocolate and raspberry ($3, cash only).
Why: It’s the hottest dough in town.
When: Sun., 10 a.m.
Where: Commonwealth, 11 Broad Canal Way, Kendall Square (617-945-7030).
